Remember the days when you’d print out directions before hitting the road?

For many of us, MapQuest was our go-to for navigating the world before smartphones took over.

Well, MapQuest is back! But this time, MapQuest is not just guiding you to your destination – we’re helping lead the way in protecting your privacy.

In a world where data-hungry apps dominate, MapQuest is taking a different route by launching the Private Maps by MapQuest app with zero tracking.

No data sharing, no targeted ads – just straight-up mapping, nothing else.

Privacy First

In today’s digital landscape, it feels like we’re constantly trading privacy for convenience. Most times when we use a “free” app, we’re handing over pieces of our lives to be tracked, analyzed and shared.

But MapQuest is saying enough.

Our team has launched Private Maps, a subscription-based app with features like Anonymous Mode and Private Favorites, that promises no tracking, no ads and transparency.

Now, you might be wondering: How can MapQuest give me directions without tracking my data? It’s a fair question.

Private Map’s approach is simple: we only use your location to get you from point A to point B – nothing more. Once you arrive, your data is no longer needed and it’s not stored for any future use.

Our team worked in collaboration with Startpage, the world’s most private search engine, to better understand how to create top-tier privacy protections for people who want directions without jeopardizing their online privacy.

The new Private Maps app uses techniques like differential privacy, which anonymizes data to ensure it’s protected, even if accessed.

MapQuest strengthens its commitment to protecting your personal data by using high-quality map content from HERE Technologies, which practices a privacy-by-design approach as part of its privacy charter.

For many, MapQuest brings back memories of printed directions.

But this isn’t just a trip down memory lane and MapQuest isn’t just reviving an iconic internet brand – we’re resurrecting a value: privacy.

MapQuest believes users are ready for a shift in online mapping, even if it means leaving behind the so-called “free” apps that have become staples in our lives.

Sure, many of us have gotten used to free apps, but the hidden costs – data breaches, targeted ads and the loss of control over our personal information – are becoming harder to ignore.

Private Maps by MapQuest shows us that there’s another way forward.
